Heading to Russia? Hand luggage liquids rules have changed… for the worse…

11/01/2014 by Kevincm

As the run up to Sochi 2014 continues apace, it seems that Russia is on the path against the war on liquids with The Moscow Times reported that those flying out of Moscow Vnukovo and Moscow Sheremetyevo airports will have any liquids in their carry on items stripped. This includes items that have a liquid content of under 100ml.

This includes all the usual things such as:

  • All liquid
  • Aerosols
  • Gels
  • Cosmetics

Sheremetyevo Airport will not allow medicines to be carried at all, whilst Vnukovo will allow medics providing an “official statement” is carried. Meanwhile, Moscow Domodedovo has followed up with a statement that all liquids bar baby food and medicines should be checked in.

An official statement on the Rosaviation site (English translation) states:

The advice for those travelling domestically or out of Russia is to plan accordingly, and dump liquids into your hold luggage if you want to take them with you.

It is expected these rules are to be lifted after 21st March 2014

Still: another bit of chaos if you’re planning to head to the Winter Olympics…
