Etihad adds first class cabin to their Tokyo route

30/01/2014 by Kevincm

Etihad Airways are adding a premium option on their route between Abu Dhabi and Tokyo Narita, with the airline adding a first class product between the two cities.

To achieve this, the airline will be swapping the current Airbus A330-200 operated on that route for an Airbus A340-500 aircraft.

The timings look like this:

EY878 DEPART AUH 22:05 ARRIVE NRT 13:15+1
EY871 DEPART NRT 21:20 ARRIVE AUH 04:35+1

Operates daily
Operates with Airbus A330-200 equipment until 14th September 2014 (2 Class)
Operates with Airbus A340-500 equipment from 15th September 2014 (3 Class)

There is a seating capacity drop, as the A340-500s have less seats than the A330-200

Aircraft FIRST BUSINESS Economy TOTAL
A330-200 - 22 240 262
A340-500 12 28 200 240

Still, for those in economy class, these planes do feature a standard Airbus widebody cabin of 2-4-2 down the back of the plane, along with power at seat, AVOD and all the fun of the fair features you’d expect.

For those who enjoy Etihads Diamond First, this is another useful option if you’re going the long haul….

finally … for the longest time neither HKG nor NRT to AUH has F, which was puzzling

Looking at the equipment being sent to NRT, it’s all the long haul variants (A330-200, then A340-500). Whilst it’s not THAT long haul, it could suggest the equipment that they would like to use (like 777-300ERs) probably 1) won’t fill the plane and 2) aren’t available for this route.
