Norwegian Air Shuttle has added a nice disruptive piece of colour to the aviation scene since they started their long haul options – whilst scaring a lot of the incumbent airlines (especially the US airlines represented by Airlines for America who are crying foul over its operations).
Currently, the airline operates the Stockholm to New York JFK route three times a week. It seems the route is a success with a 4th service to be introduced:
DY7005 DEPART ARN 17:35 ARRIVE JFK 2005JFK 788 x246 DY7006 DEPART JFK 21:30 ARRIVE ARN 1115+1ARN 788 x246 Revised operation commences 4th May 2014 Services operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays Booked Equipment: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
The new addition operates on Sundays.
Norwegian Air Shuttle configures their Boeing 787s with both Premium Economy and Economy Class seating, configured as:
– 32 Premium Economy Seats configured in 2-3-2
– 259 Economy Seats configured in 3-3-3
Whilst the timings are not exactly ideal, Norwegian Air Shuttle is edging closer to really scaring the legacy airlines. All it will take will be a daily service to New York from two of their hubs….
… and watch a quiet panic break out.
