It seems that Air India have decided to push forward their plane swap around, with the Mumbai to London route to be operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner instead of a Boeing 777-300ER.
The service swap has started six weeks ahead of planned schedule change, and will operate flights AI131/AI130.
Timetable remains in situ:
AI131 DEPART BOM 07:00 ARRIVE LHR 11:30 AI130 DEPART LHR 13:30 ARRIVE BOM 04:00+1 Commences: 10th February 2014 Operates Daily Booked Equipment Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
There is a last gasp of the old 777-300ERs, which will operate flights on the 15th and 16th February.
Air India have configured their Boeing 787s in a two class setup, with:
– 18 Seats in Business class in a 2-2-2 configuration with a 74″ seat pitch, 22″ width, convertible into a flat bed
– 238 seats in Economy in a 3-3-3 configuration with a larger than average 33″ pitch, and a 17″ width
Whilst there are less seats than a Boeing 787 (No first class made up of 8 seats, 17 less business class, 55 less economy seats), for Air India who are looking at economics of routes it could allow them to operate this route cheaper with a newer aircraft.
