In-flight Wifi is fast becoming one of those things to expect when in the air. Whilst international coverage is spotty at best, it seems that GoGo are to colour a few more blocks in – with the launch of wireless internet access aboard three Delta Boeing 747-400s.
Flights between Los Angeles to Tokyo and from Atlanta to Tokyo will be the first to use this kit.
The service will be using air to satellite technology – on the Ku-waveband (as opposed to the Air to ground technologies used inside the USA)
In terms of pricing the term “not to bad” comes to mind:
- One hour passes for laptop users as low as $14.00 and $8.00 for mobile users
- Flight pass, starting at $24.95 for laptop users and $14.95 for mobile users
Delta will be deploying the GoGo Ku-waveband kit on its international fleet (that’s Boeing 777, 767, 747, Airbus 330 and certain Boeing 757s) with roll-out to be complete towards the end of 2015. Gogo in-flight broadband is also installed on all of its domestic mainline fleet and aboard its two-class regional jet fleet.
As we go around the world, the demand to keep more connected becomes more and more a need rather than a want for some – and this is a very nice spot that Delta and Gogo have here.
Just ensure your laptop or mobile phone has enough juice if you’re going to be using it the entire flight (or find a very friendly Plug/USB Point…)
