American Airlines to get A350s? Why yes!

05/05/2014 by Kevincm

The Airbus A350 is making lots of waves as it moves closer from paper plane, to test planes, to rolling out into service (with Qatar Airways being the launch customer).

There are a fair few customers in the pipeline for A350s, but then this came out from American Airlines today, who tweeted a picture of an A350 visiting Dallas Fort Worth:

The Airbus A350s were actually ordered by US Airways in October 2007, with the order converted to 22 A350-900 in December 2013 by the combined American Airlines group.

US Airways before it merged with American Airlines was an ardent user of Airbus aircraft, operating both the Airbus A320 and A330 family using them both by domestic and international routes.

The A350s will join the fleet in 2017. Whilst no configuration details have been revealed, American Airlines have introduced some interesting products on their aircraft recently.

American Airlines are also in line to get new Boeing 787 Dreamliners with 12 787-8s and 30 787-9s in the pipeline from this year.
