US Airways prepares to wave off its last Boeing 737-400

11/07/2014 by Kevincm

US Airways is preparing to withdraw the last of its Boeing 737-400 fleet on the 19th August with a special flight to operate that day.

The flight – US737 will operate a route between Charlotte Douglas to Dallas Fort Worth to Philadelphia to Charlotte on the 19th August.

Tickets are bookable on the US Airways/AA sites for those who wish to fly a Boeing 737-400 in US Airways colours one last time.

There are some aircraft in the world that can be loved, and some that can be loathed. Alas, my experience of a packed US Airways Boeing 737-400 was not what I would call pleasant in the least (even on a short Chicago to Philadelphia hop), and the planes were not what I’d think as the best of shapes internally… and that was in 2008.

Various airlines around the world continue to operate the Boeing 737-400 as they can carry a lot of people in a small amount of space – but for some airlines, these planes are now expensive to run and need to be retired. This includes the US Airways Boeing 737-400s.

Boeing 737s will still operate for US Airways… except they’ll be painted up in American Airlines paintwork.
