With the successful pact of Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand who have approval to start a joint-venture alliance, Singapore Airlines has confirmed it is to operate one their Airbus A380 aircraft on the Singapore – Auckland route.

Singapore Airlines will deploy the A380 from 27th October 2014, swapping out the existing Boeing 777-300ER between Singapore and Auckland, booked on the following timetable:
SQ285 DEPART SIN 20:50 ARRIVE SIN 11:45+1 SQ286 DEPART AKL 13:30 ARRIVE SIN 19:00 Operates to 26th October 2014 with a Boeing 777-300ER Operates from 27th October 2014 with an Airbus A380 to end of winter season
Combined with other services which use the lower capacity Boeing 777-200ER, this is a seat boost capacity that shouldn’t be overlooked.
The fares and flight changes have been loaded on the Singapore Airlines website, and should be available through other booking engines that are vastly easier to use.
Over the Northern summer period the plane will switch back to a Boeing 777-300ER to reflect the reduced capacity during the southern hemisphere winter.
So how much capacity does this add? Lets compare:
FIRST/SUITES BUSINESS ECONOMY TOTAL 777-300ER 8 42 228 278 A380 12 60 399 471
So, per extra 193 seats a flight a day in each direction during peak months is quite a capacity increase – or for those who prefer to work in weeks, 1,351 extra seats with boosts in First, Business and Economy Class.
Other services will be run with Air New Zealand’s Boeing 777-200ERs and Singapore Airlines 777-200ERs.
For those who want to fly the A380 SuperJumbo to Auckland in some comfort, this can be a rather good option for you to select.
