Well, it’s Tuesday, so it must be time for a strike somewhere. Today, it’s a Lufthansa Strike with Vereinigung Cockpit taking action over retirement ages and benefits.
However, unlike previous strikes that have hit German Domestic and European routes, Vereinigung Cockpit will be going after long haul routes.

This Lufthansa strike does have room for serious damage, with flights from Frankfurt hit. 40 flights are currently affected with destinations hit including:
- Vancouver
- Denver
- Delhi
- New York
- Los Angeles
- Chicago O’Hare
- Nagyoa
- Tokyo
- Washington DC
- … and more. Check the cancellations.
All flights out of Munich and Düsseldorf are currently set to operate, with 30 flights out of Frankfurt to operate. Lufthansa group flights – Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, SWISS and Air Dolomiti – will operate too.
Rebookings are open – see the notice on Lufthansa.com for details
Unlike the European flights, this actually could do more damage – whilst there are fewer passengers involved, there is a matter of prestige and integrity to run international services.
I have a feeling there could be more strikes if Vereinigung Cockpit doesn’t get what it wants…
As always for the passenger, plan ahead and be prepared to be flexible if you need to get somewhere far and wide today.
