I admit it – I’m a scatterbrain. My upcoming trip to Chicago is exactly a victim of this (along with a few personal circumstances that have changed in life) along with other things have left me mostly confused…
With me only back from Vegas a couple of weeks and my mind was buried away at the chalk-face of my new job, the thought hasn’t crossed my mind on the upcoming trip to the Windy City.
Until a discussion today with my boss where I commented we would have a full compliment of people in the place… and him piping up
Boss: “And you’re away next week”
Me: “Huh?”
Boss: “Yes, your next aboard trip”
Me (externally): “Oh.. yeah. That trip”
Me (internally): “<Expletives deleted for the sensitive readers of this dear blog> “
Ever get a sinking feeling over an upcoming trip? That’s the exact feeling when my boss and me had that discussion.
After getting home (and cursing Mcaffe’s Endpoint Operations server), I sat down and worked out what been done, and what is there to do.
So far:
- I booked the flights (that was a miracle in itself getting me to book that)
- I booked a night at one hotel
- I booked a three nights at another hotel when the group rate came up
- … and that’s about it.
So to do:
- Answer pre-flight questionnaire
- Book coach tickets
- Ensure I select going from a different airport to the one I normally go from.
- Pack everything
- Unpack everything
- Repack everything
- Ensure I actually pack what I need
- Ensure the bags are in good enough shape.
This upcoming trip has been a bit crazy from the start, with a transition to a new role as well as a few personal issues. Suffice to say I only really committed to it when I hammered the buy button on the British Airways website to get the ticket.
But, with just over a week and a bit to go, I have time to get the final bits organised. Or purchased. Or sorted. Or done down-route.
So have you ever had a moment where you’ve paused and gone “Oh <expletive>”, and ran around like you’re on fire trying to sort everything out?
