Time for a bit of blog admin – and something rather important.
One of my readers noticed something I posted on Twitter I was at BAcon this year:
Well @bigmalx…. it’s a little more complex than that.
Some back story.
On the 15th May 2009, I fired up Blogger.com and created a blog. That blog is pretty much the one you’ve been reading today – GhettoIFE.com
The Original GhettoIFE… How long ago was it when I first put code to interwebs?
GhettoIFE’s last Blogger.com iteration
After getting the name right (it took a month, and a Lucky person to spot it), I continued blogging along my own merry way, until I made the move to Boarding Area formally on the 6th November 2011.
And since then, I’ve been writing along in my own merry way.
However, for a while now, I’ve been slowly getting dissatisfied with the name of GhettoIFE.com.
Why?
It was a joke many moons ago to put a phone in a sick bag, that turned into a life of its own. And it suited me for quite some time (in fact, a good 5 years – ages by Internet standards).
However, I’ve slowly got tired of the name, as it only reflects a part what I do now. GhettoIFE has turned from a bad joke to providing:
- Route intelligent news
- Airline orders and deliveries
- New airplane coverage
- The long play trip reports that cover all classes of travel
- Points news for the UK
- Aviation photography
- Commentary
As such, the name GhettoIFE is becoming such a poor fit, it’s no longer funny. Plus people can’t pronounce it, which is annoying (It’s Ghetto I..F..E. Use big letters).
In addition, whilst I still produce GhettoIFE systems when on some carriers, my flying pattern has changed with more business class products appearing. As GhettoIFE is very much an economy product – it again is a poor fit to what the blog is now.
So, I’ve made a decision.
Yes. I can make them occasionally. Scary isn’t it?
Over the next few months, GhettoIFE will be consigned to the great Internet bin in the sky, with a new blog taking its place.
I’d like you to welcome
Economy Class and Beyond
“News, Views, Miles,Intelligence and everything in between”.
Economy Class and Beyond will still be hosted by Boarding Area which provides a great platform to share my content with – (so you don’t get shot of me that easy. Sorry.).
With my friends at Boarding Area, I hope to be going live with the new feed next week (with some new features such as, a brand new simple to use layout, an Instagram account, and if I get time, I’m going a new Google Plus presence).
Past GhettoIFE content will move over to the new blog (and will be tagged as GhettoIFE for reference). New content will be much more tagged that it has ever been
It’s been a fun ride… but it’s time to put give the flight attendant the ripped apart sickbag to be disposed of in an environmentally responsible way.
I know there are many of you who read this blog. Some of you are in the comments, some of you watching silently. All I can say is thank you each time you click my link and read my content.
I hope to be delivering better and more focused content as I change this blog.
Kevin

Also remember that as well as being part of BoardingArea, we’re also part of BoardingArea.eu, delivering frequent flyer news, miles and points to European readers!

I don’t comment often but I wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your blog. I support the rebranding – I think it’s a great idea. I love the realistic nature of your TripReports. Please keep up the great work.
Flying BA LH for the first time in 10 years and enjoyed reading about your experience in WT. Oddly looking forward to flying the BA 747 in WT though might try for an AUP to WTP.

Glad you enjoy and thanks for the support.
There will be more realistic trip reports in the pipeline.
And yes, AUP in a BA747 is worth it (around $250 subject to capacity)

Thanks Becky 🙂 it’s been an interesting road so far on the blogging journey – this should be a great change

I look forward to reading the re-named blog. The “ghetto” name irritated me — I got that it must have started as a joke, but it’s great to see that the blog has matured.

Thanks AAL – jokes wain after a while. This one has been on the change list for some time (believe it or not).
It’s matured – but like the writer, it’ll have it’s own set of kiddy moments 😉

Been reading this blog pretty much from the start. Don’t comment very much at all, but always a site I visit daily.
Would really like to see articles on Tesco Clubcard and Avios etc aswell, which I think would be of use for UK readers.
Keep up the good work though and thanks for the time you put into this blog!

Hi Jamie – and thank you for being a loyal reader! 🙂
Avios articles are on the way – a certain UK regional airline has joined the Avios game, and I’m in the process of trying to crunch my own numbers to see if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.
Tesco. Erk. I’ll put a few of those out (Head for Points is wayyy ahead of me there), but I do have my own take on some of the scheme that I can air a few times a month.
Thanks again Jamie. I’ll take some of those suggestions going forward! 🙂
