Bad news for those who wish to travel on the German flag carrier – Lufthansa, who will be suffering another strike at the hands of the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots union.
In the past, entire parts of the airline, or sections of the group have been grounded. This time, specific aircraft types will be the focus of the actions with:
- A320 series pilots
- Boeing 737 pilots
- Embarer type pilots

Pilots who are with Vereinigung Cockpit will go off the clock and strike from 13.00 CEST on October 20th to 23.59 CEST on October 21st.
Looking at the fleet above, this will target Lufthansa’s short and medium haul network, with heavy delays and cancellations expected.
A list of cancellations has been published – with Reuters stating 1,450 flights are on the chopping block.
Flights operated by other Lufthansa group airlines (Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, SWISS and Air Dolomiti) will still be operating.
Rebooking is opening up, based on:
Rebooking within same booking class:
– Tickets must be issued on/before 19.10.2014
– New date of travel must be on/before January 31st, 2015

It’s never good when a strike hits, especially when it’s the entire European option at stake.
This is going to rumble on for a while – plan ahead, and prepare for trouble.
