Virgin Atlantic to double its planned operations to Atlanta

10/12/2014 by Kevincm

Virgin Atlantic is appearing to double its operations between London Heathrow and Atlanta, with two services a day to operate between Virgin Atlantic’s UK hub in London and the Delta fortress in Atlanta.

This in an interesting move, as this will double the amount of capacity that Virgin operates to Atlanta – which will feed into the Delta network. If a Delta service is to be scarified between the two cities – I’ve yet to work out from the timetables.

This will lead to four flights a day (combined with the Delta operation), with Virgin Atlantic operating two, Delta operating two

The flights are loaded for booking according to Virgin Atlantic’s website.

Virgin Atlantic configure their A330-300s in three class configuration on this route, made up of:

  • 33 Upper Class Suites in 1-2-1 configuration with direct access to the aisle.
  • 48 Premium Economy Seats in 2-3-2 configuration
  • 185 Economy Seats in 2-4-2 configuration

It’s a choice of facilities for passengers who can choose between the Delta product or Virgin Atlantic product, with times to suit them best.

However, I can’t help but feel this extra service that’s been added has been done from a commercial point… with someone pushing Virgin Atlantic to add a second service. To go from none to two services a day before a route is opened is either boisterous or very carefully planned…
