If you’re in Belgium, or are planning to go to Belgium, there could be some real effort to get into the country, as it enters a state of paralysis for 24 hours in a National Strike.
The strike commenced 22:00CET 14th December, and will run to 21:59CET 15th December.

For those of you travelling by air, all Belgium airports are closed. That’s:
- Brussels National Airport
- Brussels Charleroi
- Liege
- Antwerp
- Ostend
For those travelling by Rail:
- Eurostar services to Brussels are will operate to Lille Europe.
- Thalys services will two services with the rest cancelled – see https://www.thalys.com/fr/en/traffic-info?news=5291
- SNCB has suspended all services.
Services with cities will also be disrupted, including all services offered by the Brussels Regional Transport agency.
The strike is against planned austerity cuts, as well as increases in retirement ages.
In other words, public transport as well as public services will be grinding to a halt.
Most organsisations have cancellation policies in effect, and I would urge you to consider using them if your travels take you near Belgium over the next 24 hours… because it’s not going to be fun if you need to get anywhere…
