Fancy hiring an ERJ for a day? Got £14,700 or so spare? BMI Regional can help!

08/01/2015 by Kevincm

Private jet hire for a lot of us is out of reach. Seriously – it costs serious money. However, browsing through the PR’s of the day, comes this little gem from BMI Regional

BMI Regional's Elvis for a Day promo

The fact that Rhinstone flares can be included is enough to raise an eyebrow. The Elvis quiff and sunglasses will have  serious fuel penalty though….

The PR is full of fun, stating:

As Elvis Presley’s private jets go up for sale, what better way to feel like ‘The King’ than travelling by private jet? From just £300 per person per day, wannabe legends can hire a 49-seater bmi regional jet aircraft for their own private use, including full in-flight service with bespoke menu and bar. Rhinestone-adorned flares and sideburns can be arranged.

Guests can choose their own schedule, a UK departure airport and a short haul destination – and even have their own name on the aircraft exterior. The aircraft can fly and return within the day, a perfect rock star day out to Cannes, Milan or the Northern Lights of Scandinavia.

The UK’s most punctual scheduled airline for nine consecutive years, bmi regional offers private charter of its 49-seater Embraer aircraft – decorated with a personal livery, if required. Based on 49 passengers travelling from a UK airport, a round trip from the UK to the south of France can cost as little as £300 per person return – and it includes full in-flight service.

So, basic maths. 49 seats, with fares starting at £300 a person – you’re looking at £14,700 as your starting point to hire a plane for the day. Whilst low cost carriers can get you there from £60-£100 return, you’re restricted to that timetable provided. This gives you the flexibility to operate how you want for a trip.

Providing you can club 49 people together, it could be an interesting option for a day out.

BMI Regional is the surviving component of British Midland International, and was brought by Sector Aviation Holdings in May 2012. The airline has been continuing to operate successfully as a niche short haul carrier with their fleet of Embraer E-145s an E-135s, and is still one of the UK’s most punctual carriers – which says a lot of the team who operate the 18 aircraft airline.
