Earlier last week, Cyprus Airways fell to the wayside, leaving open various gaps in its network that others are planning to fill.
So who’s filling in what gaps?
Based on data from AirlineRoute.net, Aegean and British Airways are planning to add capacity in the summer season.
- British Airways plan to add six extra flights between London Heathrow and Larnica a week (not operating Saturday), using an Airbus A320, commences 29th March 2015
- Aegean Airlines will operate two new routes:
- Larnaca to Tel Aviv will operate daily as a daily service from 30th March 2015
- Larnaca – Kiev Zhulyany will operate a three times a week service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
Expect more holes to be filled as carriers race to fill the missing capacity that Cyprus Airways has left behind.
Discussion of Cyprus Airways is abound, with the rising costs and open skies contributing to the end of the airline – along with the inability to make a profit or keep its head above water.
Whilst there is talk of bringing the airline back in another form, it will enter a very tough market in a liberal marketplace. Not the greatest conditions for a new airline start-up.
Top Kinisis Travel Public are still rescuing passengers – they will need to contact +357 22869999 internationally, or 77787878 within Cyprus
