Safety Video Saturday – Hainan Airlines featuring the Calabash Brothers

18/04/2015 by Kevincm

It’s Saturday again – so please bring your seat into the upright position, stow your tray table and ensure your luggage is in the overhead bin or under your seat as we go to this week’s safety video.

This week, Hainan Airlines of China have cartoonified their characters in their safety video… and a Chinese adventure cartoon called the Calabash Brothers.

It’s an interesting method of delivering the safety briefing that Hainan Airlines have chosen, it’s a bit… well… distracting away from the safety messages when you’re trying to follow it along.

Whilst its a way of introducing the Calabash Brothers to a wider audience – mixing a full on story with  safety messages doesn’t work too well in this case.

I like the imaginative ways they choose to display 2 scary scenarios: Getting into the brace position, and a cabin full of smoke.

By having these situations be caused by magic, rather than by a realistic emergency situation, they hope to keep the more-fearful pax.
