The Boeing 787 will partially replace a Boeing 777-200 that is operated between London Heathrow and Tel Aviv on flights BA163/BA162.
The timetable for BA163/BA162 looks a bit like this:
BA163 DEPART LHR 22:30 ARRIVE TLV 05:15+1 BA162 DEPART TLV 07;35 ARRIVE LHR 11:00 BA163 uses a Boeing 777 on Thursday and Sunday BA163 uses a Boeing 787 on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Friday and Saturday BA162 uses a Boeing 777 on Monday and Friday BA162 uses a Boeing 787 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Commences from London: 26th October 2015 Data: Airlineroute
The second daily rotation – BA165/164 – will continue to operate with an Airbus A321 between London Heathrow and Tel Aviv.
British Airways operate their Boeing 787-8s in a three class configuration in:
- 35 Club World (Business Class) seats in a 2-3-2 configuration
- 25 World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy Class) seats in a 2-3-2 configuration
- 154 World Traveller (Economy Class) seats in a 3-3-3 configuration
It’s not a great move to be honest – with 777s able to haul a lot more people in a bit more comfort in the back of the plane, but for the length of the flight – it should be tolerable.
I’ve flown on the British Airways Boeing 787 twice in World Traveller Plus between Toronto and London – check out my reports:
- From October 2013 in Tiers and Dreams
- From March 2014 in Cold Chicago, Warm Planes
It’s not a bad plane in the least – in World Traveller Plus. I might have different things to say in the crammed part of the plane that is World Traveller….

Given London-Austin is getting the 777 instead of 787 it may be as simple as a switch in aircraft between LHR-AUS and LHR-TLV responding to market demand?

It could be as simple as that to be honest. Saying that, Tel Aviv has had a wide variety of equipment in the past, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the equipment is swapped around again in he future.
