Today marks another important day in Heathrow history – with Terminal 1 closing after opening in 1968.
Heathrow Terminal 1 in 2008 – Image, Economy Class and Beyond.
The last flight will be operated by British Airways, operating BA970 with a flight to Hanover as the last flight out of the terminal.
British Airways is the last operator in the terminal, with all remaining flights out of Terminal 1 being allocted to Terminal 3 or Terminal 5.
For me, Heathrow Terminal 1 has been the starting point of many trips… and I mean many.
When I went to San Francisco… (although the terminal sent anyone to sleep).

Sunrise inside Terminal 1 – I like this image for some reason.
It’s not as good when its dark and nasty.
And then for those who have one abiding memory when connecting to and from Ireland… is of course… the “Green Mile”.
How I remember the Green Mile.
How most people saw the green mile.
The last time I went through terminal 1 was last year. By this point, the Star Alliance airlines had left the building, and it was a ghost town… even then.
It’s quiet. Almost a ghost town.
Terminal 1 is still enough to send anyone to sleep though.
I even miss the old London Room/BA Domestic and Ireland lounge.
Whilst it is “just a terminal” that has reached the end of its deemed useful life, bits of Terminal 1 will continue – namely due to the luggage system for Terminal 2 is integrated into Terminal 1.
Eventually, as Terminal 1 is ripped to bits, Terminal 2 will be expanded onto the site.
But the memories of that terminal will remain with me – along with the adventures I’ve had from there.
Thank you Heathrow Terminal 1.
