On Wednesday, the UK Government will have a tough decision to make – as well as annoy of lot of local people at the same time.
The Davis Commission will be delivering the report on Airport Expansion in the South East of England at 07:00BST tomorrow.
Heathrow from the air – Image, Economy Class and Beyond
There are three options on the table that the Davis Commission is considering:
- Extending one of the two runways at Heathrow Airport
- The building of a 3rd runway at Heathrow Airport
- The building of a 2nd runway at Gatwick Airport
Of course, this report is a recommendation to UK Government, which itself is have issues with the expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick, with ministers inside the cabinet arguing about the expansion.
It should also be noted that these parliamentary constituencies that could be affected by the noise are themselves Conservative held seats – the party currently in power in the UK.
Sadly, The UK government tends to think on a 5 yearly basis – when the elected representatives are put on the line for re-election, and seemingly cannot think about the long term needs that infrastructure requires.
None the less, expansion is needed at London airports – however, how this will be derived is a different matter completely.
What the Davis Commission will release tomorrow will be anticipated… and will be debated heavily.
