The joy of bussing… at Heathrow (or the hell of Gate T5-A10)

03/07/2015 by Kevincm

Good morning from Terminal 5, where I’m pondering what designer built this wonderful place… because there are certainly never enough gates at Terminal 5.

Why?

I’m at everyone’s non-favourite gate at Terminal 5 – A10. The joy of A10

For the uninitiated, T5-A10 is the bussing gate at Terminal 5A – for when an airline runs out of gates. And it’s a miserable place to be.

The joy of A10
And of course, being BA, they’ll use as few buses as possible to cram everyone aboard a widebody jet. The joy of A10

The joy of A10
One bus. This could be fun.

If we finally get the third runway at Heathrow, can someone design a terminal… which has enough gates to go with it please – so we can end the pain of bussing?

More from next stop later on… could well be a snapshot…

Ironic edit: The music on the transfer bus that was playing when I boarded was “The don’t impress me much” by Shania Twain.

Rather appropriate really.

I do not understand how the T5 was built with satellites that look as if they could/should be extended. Why weren’t they properly extended? All you see are loooong jet bridges.

I’ll be honest – I’ve long since given up working out what Heathrow’s designers are on. The long jet bridges work for the larger birds which park further away – but it seems they didn’t built it with enough capacity in the first place.

      Rather stupid really.
