I’ve talked about why I enjoy going through London City Airport a few times – but to demonstrate the point, I arrived into the airport yesterday. Here was the timeline from getting off the plane to getting on the Docklands Light Railway:
- Minute Zero: Doors open, and out of the plane
- Minutes One Through Three: Walk to the border
- Minute Four: Pass the UK Border Control using an e-Passport gate (which worked for once)
- Minute Five: Pick up Baggage (2nd on the belt)
- Minute Seven: On the Docklands Light Railway and off home.
Seven minutes from the plane door to a train… With Luggage. If I was without luggage – I reckon five minutes tops.
That’s why I love London City Airport when arriving back to the UK – no fuss, no mess – complete the formalities, wait for a minute or two and go.
Whilst London City Airport is aimed at the business traveller going in and out at speed, it does appeal to the leisure traveller who doesn’t want to hang around.
I just wish some other airports in the UK could work as fast as this…
