Earlier this week, Air Canada took delivery of the first of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Aircraft.

Air Canada will be using the Boeing 787-9 aircraft to expand its international services with Delhi and Dubai (from Toronto) joining the Air Canada network in the autumn. The start dates are
- Toronto Pearson to Delhi commences November 1, 2015
- Toronto Pearson and to Dubai commences November 3, 2015
As well as Delhi and Dubai, Air Canada will also operate the aircraft between:
- Toronto Pearson and Vancouver during August
- Toronto Pearson to Milan and Muching during September and October.
Air Canada will operate the Boeing 787-9s in a three cabin configuration:
- 30 Business Class seates in 1-2-1 configuration
- 21 Premium Economy seats in 2-3-2 configuration
- 247 Economy Class seats in 3-3-3 configuration
Let’s compare this to the 787-8 which Air Canada also operation:
BUSINESS PREMIUM ECONOMY ECONOMY TOTAL 787-8 20 21 210 251 787-9 30 21 247 298 --------------------------------------------------------- Difference +10 0 +37 +47 Data: Air Canada 787-8, 787-9
It seems Air Canada has decided to add more business class beds/seats at the front of the plane, and cram in another few rows in the back.
For economy class passengers, it seems that “Dreamliner levels of comfort” are the order of the day, with 31″ seat pitch and a 17″ seat width.
Still, considering Air Canada is going 3-4-3 on its Boeing 777 fleet, it’s tight down the back in all their planes…
… bar the A330s.
