For those of you with Amazon Prime, one of services offered with Prime is the ability to watch videos and original programming that Amazon offers.
Up until a few days ago, Amazon offered offline viewing of content on the Kindle Fire range of Tablets. This is now being expanded to Apple and Android devices.
It will be available to Amazon Prime subscribers in Austria, Germany, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
It seems simple enough:
- Download the App for your device
- Find a movie or TV series you want to watch that has rights to be downloaded
- Download the product to your device.
- Off you go.
When you’re on the move
- Open the Amazon TV App
- For iOS: Tap Library, Tape Refine and select “On Device”
- For Android: Tap the left navigation menu, select your downloads
Authors note: I not an Amazon Prime member… mainly as I’m still trying to see why paying £79 is a good idea for a service I might use every now and again (although now I have FireTV stick I might reconsider), so sadly I haven’t had an opportunity to test this.
Amazon Prime UK is offering 720 TV Series and 1,442 movies currently available for download – so there should be something for everyone in that selection (well, nothing that is exclusive to Netflix or other services obviously).
After you view an item for the first time, you’ll have 72 hours to watch the content. If you need longer, as long as you can connect your device to the Internet and browse the Amazon TV app, you will reset that 72 hours.
For those who travel a fair bit – and may have trouble finding a good quality wifi hotspot to download content – or need a very personalised in-flight entertainment option, this could represent good value if you are on an airline which has limited IFE selections.
If you are already on Amazon Prime, this is a nice benifit. For those of us who aren’t… its not the killer stroke for me to get my credit card out and take out Prime.
But it is a good argument if Amazon has the content you want to enjoy on the move.

I already plan on getting Amazon Prime next year when “PrimeGear” comes on. If I was traveling a lot right now, this might make me move up the plans, but at my current travel (in)frequency it’s not enough. Close, but not quite.
