I’ve gone on many a rant about how much it costs to use Heathrow Express and how I don’t think it’s good value for money in the least.
Heck, I’ve even mentioned some of the tips I use to reduce the cost of getting into London.

Well there’s good news on the horizon as Heathrow Express changes its pricing, with it encouraging you to book your tickets in advanced to get the best value.
The new tickets are available both in Express Class (Standard) and Business First (First Class).
So there are:
- 90 Day Advanced Purchase – requires you to book to a “fixed” departure date, and a return journey in 30 days.
- 30 Day Advanced Purchase – requires you to book to a “fixed” departure date, and a return journey in 30 days
- 7 Day Advanced Purchase.
What do the prices look like? Not bad if I’m honest if you book far enough
Express Class
Single Return 90 Day AP £6.99 £11.90 30 Day AP £10.75 £17.50 07 Day AP £16.10 £26.25 From a ticket machine £21.50 £35.00 Onboard the train £26.50 £40.00
Business First Class pricing isn’t bad too, providing you can book far in advanced.
Single Return 90 Day AP £9.99 £18.00 30 Day AP £14.75 £26.50 07 Day AP £22.10 £39.75 From a ticket machine £29.50 £53.00 Onboard the train £29.50 £53.00
It seems the costs have dropped for those of us who can plan at least 7 days ahead – and they get better the further you can plan ahead.
For those who can plan 90 days and beyond, there are some serious savings to be made (making it cheaper than the Heathrow Connect service). Even the 30 day advanced purchase is competitive with Heathrow Connect (currently £10.10 single).
The new advanced tickets can only be booked online. Single Advance Tickets are valid for one journey on the outbound travel date booked, whilst return advance tickets are valid for one outbound journey on the outbound travel date booked, and one return journey made within one month of the outbound travel date booked.
Of course, no refunds, are available, but you can earn Heathrow Rewards points at 1 point per £1 spent.
Children 15 years old or under can ride Heathrow Express free on these tickets, providing children are selected when booking, and an adult over 18 is travelling with them.
Full T&C’s and ticket pricing at the Heathrow Express site.
I’ve long argued that the Heathrow Express has been over priced, and with the new pricing – it becomes affordable if you can plan ahead.
A positive note for a service that was more expensive per mile than Concorde…
