With the changes happening to Transaero (including the sale of 75% of the airline for 1 rouble to Aeroflot), the first thing they’re doing isn’t too surprising – and that’s to centralise to one hub.
From the beginning of the winter timetable on the 25th October 2015, Transaero will switch their all their operations to Moscow Vnukovo.
Currently, the airline operates into all three airports in Moscow – Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo
Transaero plans to concentrate their connectivity through Vnukovo airport – through it’s A Terminal.
The airline says that moving to “Hi-Tech” Terminal A at Vnukovo it will allow passengers for comfortable and fast connections.
For Transaero, they can now focus their operations, maintenance and its resources at one base – rather than scattered across Moscow. Meanwhile, Aeroflot will continue to operate of the main hub of Sheremetyevo, whilst operating to Vnukovo and Domodedovo.
For passengers, as well as the being in one terminal, it provides connectivity being 11km from the Moscow Ring Road, 28km from the centre of Moscow. The airport is connected by road and AeroExpress train services taking 35 minutes from the airport to Kievsky Rail Terminal.
With Transaero in a recovery mode whilst it gets used to being mostly owned by Aeroflot – every penny saved counts. Centralising to one hub is a good idea as it allows resources to be honed, de-duplicated and simplified.
But on the other side, if you’re flying Transaero – I would be checking your tickets to see how the change will affect you in terms of timings and where you’re flying into.
Or you might get a real surprise when you land in Moscow…
