Eurowings (what is/was Germanwings) is beginning its assault from the base they’re establishing at Vienna International Airport, with London Stansted firmly in its sights.

The new route goes into action from the 4th December 2015 – perfect for those who want to feel a bit Christmasy in Vienna, operating the following timetable:

As well as London Stansted, Eurowings are planning deployments to Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona.

Eurowings operate a single cabin service (all economy), with fares split into Basic, Smart and Best depending on the amenities you require for your flight (and ticket flexibility too).

London to Vienna is contested by Austrian Airlines (LHR), British Airways (LHR and LGW), and EasyJet (LTN and LGW) – a fair bit of competition on the route already.

This route should be attractive to those who are north of London who wish to go to Austria, as well as provide a useful connectivity boost.

It’ll be interesting to see how this route performs as it will go head to head with tradtional carriers, as well as low cost ones.
