Time for another snapshot, this time looking at one of the shorter Trans-Atlantic hops out there – between Boston Logan and London Heathrow Airport.
The Airport
It seems there were a lot of things broken or needing fixing when I passed through Logan airport
Umm. How am I supposed to self check in with this screen?
I’d love to know how to do a CTRL+ALT+DEL on this screen.
Hologram projection thing? Yep. That’s broken as well. As was the TSA Document checker. Not a lot was actually working that day.
Check in was handled quickly, with both bags accepted without question.
For an international airport… it’s pretty… umm… dark – one you pass through the check in area.
Airside… pretty dim if we’re honest.
Lounge
The lounge is in the lower dungeons of the airport. A bit brighter than the main terminal – but not by a long shot.
The corridor of lounges – make sure you get the correct side.
Ah.. The BA Lounge
The British Airways lounge is split into two – a Business Class and a First Class lounge. I was admitted to the first class lounge based on my Gold Card.
First Class Lounge side – pre-flight dining to the left. If you’re in Club or above, take advantage of pre-flight dining – the flight is too short.
Sandwiches and Cruets. If you wanted anything more substantial, you’d need to go to pre-flight dining.
The Plane:
The flight was aboard one of the veterans of the BA fleet – a Boeing 747-400.
I’m going to be honest – a Boeing 747 isn’t my ideal plane by a long stretch. I prefer the big twins for the comfort factor on a shortish leg like this.
Loads in Club and World Traveller Plus seemed to be healthy. World Traveller was quieter – with the middle seat free. Always good for a long haul flight
The seat
It’s the old BA Long haul seat – which means there’s padding and you’re not sitting on a bench for hours on end. Good for longer haul flights too. Legroom was acceptable – if not desiring a little more.
Onboard service
In World Traveller – a three stage service was offered – drinks from the bar, dinner and breakfast.
Bar Service – Drinks and Prezels, and the cut back to one can of cola is in full swing.
Tray meal – main.
Five Spice Chicken. Tasty in one end, bland in the other.
Breakfast box. I think the box would had been more tasty than the croissant.
The flight
A typical night time flight. Thankfully smooth across the pond, only getting into the real bumps when comping into Heathrow on a wet day.
In which case, enjoy the rollercoaster ride.
Morning light – note the cloud layer.
And wet at Heathrow. Nothing like rain welcoming you to London.
