So… what do you get on a UK Domestic 40 minute flight?

One of the questions I’m never asked is what you get served on a 40 minute UK domestic flight between London and Manchester.

This was flown on British Airways – which styles itself as a full service carrier on this segment.

So before flying, there’s a bunch of identity checks to ensure the right person is boarding the right flight.

Once that’s done – it’s pretty normal. Get on the plane, board, wait for the plane to fill up (connecting passengers help fill up an Airbus A320 full off passengers).

Seating

Seating is the usual British Airways short haul bench that they have fitted aboard their Airbus A320 family fleet.

Standard BA Short-Haul (B/E Aerospace) seat. Middle seat isn’t blocked on these services.

And if your trip involves Heathrow Airport, normally a taxi around the airport until you find a runway.

Concorde
If you’re lucky, you’ll find a Concorde too.

Grey skies.

Catering

With the plane barely airborne, in flight service began – with a snack run (choice of crisps or biscuits). If you’re desperate for a snack on this flight, sit either right at the front or right at the back of the plane.

With the bar trolley following…

Yes. It’s a full bar. Don’t expect champagne though on a domestic run.

The plane doesn’t go particularly high in the sky with a 40 minute hop.

IFE

You get a map! What more do you want? What was that… Wifi? No chance.

Before you know it, the view will change from this…

To this…

If you’re lucky, it’s a short taxi to the gate, and then off to arrivals. As a Domestic flight, there’s no further passport checks.

And if you’re unlucky, there’s the luggage belt. Don’t expect anything resembling priority luggage to be delivered in order though…

From a centre to centre perspective – train is quicker overall. But if you’re on a connecting ticket, or you have time to spare… or if you need to be in West London/Somewhere near Manchester – this isn’t a bad option.

Is this flight Manchester – Gatwick? I see an EasyJet tail in the background and I didn’t think they had any Heathrow flights. Was it from a different flight, different day?

The final pics are at Manchester Airport – where EasyJet has a base. The first few are Heathrow – unless they’ve moved G-BOAA to Gatwick 😉
