So by now, if you’re an American Airlines AAdvantage member, you’ve read and digested the news.
And if not, hit One Mile at a Time, Mommy Points, Pizza In Motion, The Gate, etc
And it brings me back to the Kubler Ross Change Curve.
This was hanging in my office a year and a bit ago. Oddly, I was using to describe another devaluation at that time.
Or what some call The Seven steps:
- Shock
- Denial
- Frustration
- Depression
- Experiment
- Decision
- Integration
I thin we’ve all passed Shock and Denial, with Frustration and Depression setting in.
And that’s natural. You’ve flown all the butt-in-seat miles you can, you’ve been loyal to American Airlines and oneworld (when there are sometimes better and nicer choices out there),
And it’s ok to go back and forth on this curve as you find out more about the new programme.
Eventually, you’ll hit Experiment, Decision and Integration. And this is the important bit, as you’ll be thinking about your 2016/2017 qualifications.
You could be looking at other mileage programmes to see if they offer value for money, or if they’re the right fit for you.
Or you might choose to sucker up and adapt to the changes, thinking to yourself “this isn’t too bad”.
Or you could go your own way, and throw elite flying in the bin and fly on your own coin.
Change is tough – but that’s what change is.
Of course, the Kubler Ross Curve validity hasn’t been actually proven… and it could be just stuff management types like you to think about whilst you’re told to get your resume/curriculum vitae in order.
None the less – it seems a point for those of you thinking of defecting in 2016 for 2017 elite qualification after reading about today’s changes..
