Thalys – the cross France/Belgium/Netherlands/Germany high speed rail service will be increasing security, with the introduction of security scans.
Thalys PKBA trainset (right) and a Eurostar Class 373 (left) at Paris Gare du Nord – Image, Economy Class and Beyond.
These will be initially rolled out at Paris Gare du Nord and Lille Europe by the 20th December in time for the Christmas travel season according to Railway Gazette.
Similar security screening facilities are planned for Amsterdam and Brussels-Midi too.
Additional options such as restricting platform access to ticketed passengers and printing passsenger names on tickets are also being considered too.
The upshot of the extra screening is however, instead of rocking up for the train a few minutes early, you will need to arrive around 30 minutes to clear security before the train departs whilst Thalys and the French government begin to impose these checks.
… and just when it was becoming pleasurable to travel by rail in Europe.

I’m not sure how needing to arrive earlier is an upshot but still nice.info to know
