Mastercard offers free Transport for London services with Apple Pay

26/11/2015 by Kevincm

For those of you who are visiting London, or are living in London, here’s a useful promotion for the next few Mondays.

Mastercard is running a promotion that will allow you free access to Transport for London services for the following Mondays:

  • 23rd November (passed)
  • 30th November
  • 7th December
  • 14th December

London Underground Central Line Train at Debden (Free with Mastercard)

You’ll need to have the following:

  • An Apple iPhone 6/6s, Apple iPhone 6plus, 6splus, or an Apple Watch
  • A Mastercard
  • And that Mastercard tied to your Apple Pay account

Mastercard will refund up to £27.90 worth of transactions per day on your card. You will need to touch in and touch out when using Trains, Underground and DLR (like you do with an Oyster card), or touch in on London Buses and Trams.

London Buses (Free with Mastercard)

Also available on London Buses too…

This is valid on:

  • London Buses
  • London Underground
  • London Trams
  • The Docklands Light Railway
  • London Overground
  • TfL Rail
  • Emirates Air Line
  • Most National Rail services

This is not valid on Heathrow Express, Thames Clipper and other non-Transport for London services.

Full T&C’s are at http://www.mastercard.co.uk/applepay-fare-free-monday.html.

Transport for London has been opening up to different payment platforms (apart from its own Oyster Card) for some time, with contactless payment methods welcome since 2014 on all services, and Apple Pay has been used for fare payments since it rolled out.

Still, if you’ve got a Mastercard that’s tied to an Apple iPhone/Watch for ApplePay, it’s a free ride or many around London for the next few Mondays.

Helpful with the Christmas shopping…
