American Airlines prepares Los Angeles to Hong Kong route

09/03/2016 by Kevincm

Whilst United Airlines innovates with its new routes, American Airlines “responds to customer demand”, with the launch of a route between Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

A daily service is due to start on the 7th September 2016, with the following timetable planned:

DEPART LAX 01:55 ARRIVE HKG 08:10+1
DEPART HKG 20:20 ARRIVE LAX 18:40

Notes:
No flight numbers assigned.
Commences: 7th September 2016
Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-300ER
Operates Daily subject to governmental approval

American Airlines seems happy to announce this route stating:

“We announced new domestic Los Angeles routes at the end of January, and customers let us know they wanted more great service to even more destinations,” said Andrew Nocella, chief marketing officer for American Airlines. “This route connects customers in Los Angeles with one of the world’s most important business markets and provides convenient connections to important business and leisure destinations across the Pacific.”

American Airlines will operate this route with a Boeing 777-300ER, configured with

  • 8 First Class seats in 1-2-1 formation
  • 52 Business  in 1-2-1 formation
  • 30 Main Cabin Extra in 3-3-3 formation
  • 220 Economy in a tight 3-4-3 formation

As for the competition, American Airlines will be going head to head with Cathay Pacific on the route.

Timings on the route are a bit different, with the flight leaving in the very early morning from Los Angeles (which should mean its a quiet flight – people want to get aboard, fed, and then fall asleep to wake up in a different city).

With airlines having to adjust to market requests and also making the best use of their fleet – expect more deployments to take place that will both serve the needs of the customer… and the airline.
