Austrian Airlines are extending their reach with a new service being launched to Hong Kong.

The new service will be the third service to China that  Austrian Airlines have added to their network (the others being Beijing and Shanghai.

Austrian Airlines will operate the Vienna to Hong Kong route five times a week, with the timetable below:

OS067 DEPART VIE 13:00 ARRIVE HKG 06:25+1 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturdays)
OS068 DEPART HKG 09:40 ARRIVE VIE 16:10 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sundays)

Commences: 5th September 2016
Booked Equipment: Boeing 777
OS067 operates Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays
OS068 operates Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays

With the service commencing on the 5th September 2016, it will bring Austrian Airlines flight operation to Asia to 31 direct flight a week.

Austrian Airlines is betting that most of the traffic will be connecting traffic – with the PR stating they expect two-thirds of passengers to utilise Austrians hub at Vienna to change for service for Western and Eastern Europe.

Certainly, the timings on the Hong Kong service suggest this to be the case, allowing for morning connections for the outbound service, and evening connections for the return from Hong Kong. At Hong Kong itself, there’s plenty of time for the early Asia connections to meet the flight.

Booking is now open for this flight, with Austrian Airlines opening pricing at €599 return in Economy – and hopefully for those of you redeeming points and miles – should be showing in the inventories of rewards seats to grab.

Whilst I’ve only tried Austrian Airlines hospitality in a limited form, this could be an interesting way to get to and from Asia from Europe.
