After the attack at Brussels Airport yesterday (22nd March), authorities were hoping to re-open the airport quickly.
Sadly, this isn’t going to happen, with Brussels Airport closed through 25th March.
From the Brussels Airport site – http://www.brusselsairport.be/en/alarm/69875/. Those who are considering travel to Brussels Airport should check this regularly for updates.
Whilst the forensic investigation is still being conducted, the owners of Brussels Airport have no access to the building to assess the damage.
Airlines are reacting, with re-bookings allowed as needed, and flights diverted.
In a short examination:
- Ryanair are diverting all their flights to Brussels Charleroi
- Aer Lingus are adding capacity to Amsterdam
- Jet Airways have diverted to Amsterdam
- ANA have diverted to Düsseldorf
Brussels Airlines meanwhile is taking the chance to re-base itself as it cannot operate out of its home airport.
Brussels Airlines will therefore operate out of Liege and Antwerp Airports
Brussels Airlines has put a timetable together, so you are strongly advised to check before you travel – especially as you will need to proceed to Liege or Antwerp – or in some cases, the flights being cancelled all together.
The revised timetable came online, and is available at https://www.brusselsairlines.com/en-be/misc/new-schedule-24mar.aspx
It goes without saying – allow extra time for your journeys – Ryanair are recommending arriving three hours early before your flight
Eurostar and Thalys are operating services with minor changes – with re-bookings allowed.
SNCB/NMBS are operating normal services, with some access restrictions.
Brussels Metro (operated by STIB-MIVB) and local transportation are operating services with a lot of changes. Check their site for full details
Please be safe on your travels.
