Whilst it may be Easter Day, the aviation business takes little heed of holidays. As a case in point – today, Emirates began its Airbus A380 operations between Dubai and Birmingham Airport.
I of course was on the spot, covering the launch – and the plane touching down at Birmingham Airport
A6-EOR was the plane of the day that commenced the formal start of A380 operations at Birmingham Airport.
Editors note: I had actually hoped to be in the terminal covering this, but that’s a sticky subject…
And here it is lining up for departure at Birmingham Airport as it prepares to depart Birmingham back towards Dubai.
(PS: yours truly got soaked in the process of getting these photos – you’re welcome by the way)
The other two rotations that Emirates operate between Dubai and Birmingham will be operated with a two-class Boeing 777-300ER.
Emirates are operating the Dubai to Birmingham route with a two-class Airbus A380 on a daily rotation on flights EK39/EK40.
It seems demand exists for Emirates to bring the two-class Airbus A380 to Birmingham. The trick will be to see if Emirates can sustain the demand that an A380 needs… or if the airline decides to up-scale to more than once-daily A380 operations

Big plane for a little airport.

They seem to be pulling the passengers to justify it. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s downgraded… Or upgraded later.
