So in the constant comedy that are my first world problems – I appear to have two trips running together.
I am heading off to Chicago again shortly, but I have the an added complication of being at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2016 straight after.
So, we have complexities coming in already of two trips running in together.
Normally a Chicago Trip is a Wednesday to Monday thing for me – but with me needing to be in Hamburg late Monday, this has turned into a complex mess.
Options… I have a few thankfully
- Fly in and out of Heathrow, and use the left luggage facility.
- Pro – I don’t have to worry about connections in most respects. Easy as pie.
- Minus – I have to lug my “business stuff” around on the previous trip. Also, expensive air fares from London. I also have to pay for the Left Luggage.
- Fly in and out of Manchester, divert home, go onto London to onto Hamburg
- Pro – It’s cheaper, even throwing in all the transfers. I carry less, and I can dump my stuff at home
- Minuses – a lot travelling, and I risk public transport foul-ups
- Fly in and out of Birmingham, go home, fly out of Birmingham
- I’m sorry. I’m still laughing. Fly out of Birmingham? There’s comedy. Besides, the timings don’t work. Next.
- Fly out of Manchester, go back Heathrow, and then tag another set of flights on to get to Hamburg
- Pros – It positions me perfectly.
- Minuses – I still have to use safe luggage, and run the chance of a mis-connect at Heathrow if I don’t get my ass in gear.
So here’s the plan:

What’s the term I’m looking for… I like it when a plan comes together.
Outbound:
- Manchester Ringway to Heathrow T5
- Heathrow T3 to O’Hare T5
Europe-Bound
- Chicago O’Hare to Boston
- Boston to Heathrow T5
AIX
- London Heathrow T5 to Hamburg
- Hamburg to Heathrow T5
- Train home and collapse.
This plan however is contingent on me making certain deadlines:
- Getting out of Chicago on-time
- Making my connection at Boston on time
- Making sure I can repack my baggage fast at Heathrow
- Making sure I get out of AIX fast enough to catch the flight home
Not many challenges. Oh, I have to do a Domestic to International connection at Heathrow as well.
