When it comes to low cost carriers, the idea isn’t to have the most spacious product out there – rather the idea is to densely pack in your passengers to make as much revenue as possible.
And ideally keep the passengers somewhat happy.
Air Asia has chosen Mirus Seating (who are exhibiting at Aircraft Interiors Expo) to supply it’s new Hawk seat to be fitted to:
- New Airbus A320ceos
- Airbus A320ceos requiring refitting
- Airbus A320neo
With Air Asia having 188 aircraft in its active fleet, and 41 Airbus A320ceos on order and 300 Airbus A320s on orders, that’s a lot of seat sets to build.
So why has Air Asia chosen the Hawk seat?
Well, the seat is built from a composite frame, and has very few moving parts – the net results being a 40% weigh difference compared with conventional seats that could be used.
It’s a impressive win for Mirus Seating, and an order like that should should keep the seat manufacturer busy…
.. as well as making other airlines take note.

Interesting nitpicking. I was walking and typing this post up as I was going along.

Did you have a chance to sit in the seat? Is AirAsia installing them with the reclining feature?
Usually, I’m not a big fan of slimline seats, but the current AirAsia seats are not that comfortable either, so probably not a big change…
