Time for another snapshot, this time looking at British Airways old World Traveller Plus product between Boston and Heathrow aboard BA202:
Transit and Security
Of course, there’s no connection between the AA concourse and the International terminal – meaning you have to leave security, take the bus, and re-clear security. This is all well and good… except for the 30 minutes it took to clear security in the fast-track lane.
Terminal E, Boston – Land side.
Lounge
I used the British Airways lounge in the dungeon of Boston Terminal E. It’s not a bad lounge, with typical minimal food offerings and reasonable WiFi. I paid for an upgrade from World Traveller to World Traveller Plus – I needed to sleep on this flight… not party sadly.
Boarding
Delayed, due to Swissport hogging the ramp. Wonderful as I had tight deadlines to meet at Heathrow. Priority boarding was announced from the lounge.
The Plane.
BA202 would be operated by a four class British Airways Boeing 747-400… and it’s one of the odd ball ones.
Allow me to expand. Normally a plane is First class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy – with Business on the upper deck too.
Not this plane – its configured with First, the World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy), then Club World (Business), then World Traveller (Economy), with Club World on the top deck.
Whilst it would mean a quick disembarkation for me, for those in Club World in the lower deck would wait for World Traveller Plus to disembark first.
The Seat
It’s the old World Traveller Plus seat. This was not overly welcome as it’s tough getting a sleeping position on this seat (and far away from the bulkhead if you want to sleep.
IFE
IFE is the old screen format (at least is Audio/Visual On-Demand as opposed to rolling content). Nice new headphones though. At seat power is available with an EmPower adaptor.
New Headphones though. Not that bad.
Food
A menu was given (which is nice in World Traveller Plus). Not a bad dinner aboard BA202 that night.
I went for the beef. Not too bad for airplane beef.
As for breakfast… I slept through it mostly until 40 minutes to landing. A box was waiting for me with a crossant and some fruit bar. I passed.
The views.
Dark and Twikly out of Boston…
And Bright and reasonably nice coming into Heathrow, with views of London.
Canary Wharf and the Millennium Dome
