Iberia is continue to expand its long haul operations, with plans to launch a Madrid to Shanghai.
Iberia will operate the service three times a week to start with an Airbus A330-200

The route will commence on the 28th June 2016, operating the timetable below:
IB6889 DEPART MAD 12:50 ARRIVE PVG 07:10+1 Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays IB6888 DEPART PVG 11:00 ARRIVE MAD 18:40 Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays Commences: 28th June 2016 Booked Equipment: Airbus A330-200 Operates 3 days a week: - IB6889 operates Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays - IB6888 operates Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays
The route is still subject to governmental approval, but the timetables are showing on the Iberia web site

If it’s in the timetable, there’s a good chance the flight is going to run. Currently, there is no direct link between Madrid and Shanghai – with most people having to route via Europe (either with BA, or one of the SkyTeam/Star Alliance or via the Gulf with Qatar/Etihad/Emirates ).
