There are the occasional new operator of the Boeing 787 – as deliveries to airlines continue apace. Today’s new operator is Air Austral who have taken delivery of their first Boeing 787.

This is the first of two aircraft that are being delivered to Air Austral – which will join the 9 strong fleet that Air Austral operate.
The delivery of this aircaft is rather intresting in a few ways.
Firstly, whilst Air Austral is based on the island of Réunion – the island itself is a department of France. As such, the plane will carry a French registry. In turn Air Austral becomes the first operator of the Boeing 787 in France.
Work that one out if you can.
Secondly – this plane is actually one of the early build Boeing 787 aircraft (matched with data according to Airfleets). These planes come from the “terrible teens” – the early production Boeing 787s which have required major changes to be made, and thus have suffered a range penalty compared to the later assembled.
Still – it’s good to see another operator of the Boeing 787.
