As brand new more efficient airplanes join many an airline fleet, older ones must make way sadly. This is true for KLM who have announced that Fokker 70 operation will come to an end on October 2017.

KLM Cityhopper (A KLM subsidiary) is replacing its short-haul Fokker fleet used for shorter regional hops in Europe.
The airline is replacing them with a mixture of Embraer E-195s and E-170 aircraft.

The airline introduced the Embraer E-190s in 2008, and the E-175s in 2016.
KLM Cityhopper was an avid user of Fokker aircraft (previously operating the Fokker F50 and Fokker F100). The airline currently has 14 Fokker 70 aircraft in its fleet, with an average age of 20 years old.
As such, the Fokker F70 type will leave the KLM Cityhopper fleet on the 29th October 2017 after sterling service with the airline.
It’ll be a shame to see these planes go (as they were pretty reasonable to fly in… if you were aboard the middle of the plane), but at least they’ll be replaced with Embraer E-Jets – in my opinion, the best regional jets out there in terms of passenger comfort.
I flew on a couple of Fokker 100s (with the defunct OLT Express for Swiss). You can see my trip report segments here and here.
