Delta to restart Atlanta-Brussels operations in 2017

09/06/2016 by Kevincm

As Brussels Airport continues to gain momentum after the awful attacks earlier this year, airlines have been returning one by one, and re-establishing their networks to the airport.

One of those to support the return is Delta – with them announcing they will re-instate flight DL080/081 – their operation between Atlanta and Brussels.

The Atlanta-Brussels service will return for the summer season from March 2017, supporting the existing daily service between Brussels and New York-JFK.

Operations are booked as follows

DL080 DEPART ATL 17:40 ARRIVE BRU 08:20+1
DL081 DEPART BRU 11:00 ARRIVE ATL 14:45

Commences: 26th March 2017
Booked Equipment: Boeing 767-300ER
Data: Delta

Delta’s Dwight James, Delta’s Senior Vice President seems supportive, stating

“As Brussels Airport transitions all airlines back to the main check-in area, we are pleased to confirm we will reinstate our Atlanta service from next summer,”

“It has been a difficult few months for the local community but we remain committed to Belgium and showing our support by operating two daily flights, which will benefit both the travelling public and also the local economy.”

Services will be operated under the Delta/Air France/KLM/Alitalia Joint Venture agreement, and code-shared appropriately.

Normality is the requirement here, and as Brussels Airport returns to a sense of normality – airlines will return to serve the capital of Belgium.

For Brussels Airport – the sooner, the better.

Why should Delta wait until March 2017 to return to Brussels from Atlanta?
The ATL_JFK_BRU is a bad charade, One of the benefits of living in Atlanta is to escape the North-East storms and snow systems with direct flights on Delta to almost anywhere. Flying through JFK does not work for passengers like me who have flown Dl 124 and later Dl 080 to Brussels since 1994.
Most airlines that I know about have returned to Brussels airport, including Delta from JFK.
The Delta consideration for Brussels and its community should mean reinstating flight 080 immediately.
Delta, do not wait until 2017 and do not invent false pretense.
