British Airways to pull hot meals on remaining short haul flights

10/06/2016 by Kevincm

It seems that British Airways are giving up with hot meals on short-haul services according to Business Traveller – with hot meals being abolished
on  its remaining short-haul flights.

These flights (known as Band 4 catered flights), are very much the longer short-haul destinations out of Heathrow, above 1200 miles and beyond – and typically over 3 hours in flight or more.

Such destinations include Larnaca, St Petersburg and Athens. Flyertalk has a guide to which destinations fall into the Band 4 destination list.

Whilst onboard catering in short-haul land has been a race to the bottom for years, it seem that longer distance routes are now on the target of accountants

I just hope they don’t get catered like Band 2 flights are catered. For those of you who need a reminder of what my band 2 flight between London and Hamburg was catered like… it was this:

The premium experience indeed when you have a slightly unhappy ham roll.

British Airways competitors don’t exactly excel either – lets look what Lufthansa offer on a similar length segment between Frankfurt and Birmingham

The race to the bottom is an ugly one – let’s be honest – as what passengers used to pay for gets replaced with “easier” and more “cost-effective” replacements.

However, it’s enough to make a person shop for food before you board a plane…

British Airways have ALSO stopped provisioning adequate food on many of their long hauls… on 5 of the last 6 London – India long hauls (8hrs+) They’ve “run out” of food for both premium economy and economy sections on 3 class flights. Particularly disappointing when having paid for “premium” and despite a clear operational issue they refuse to serve food from business class. This is obviously uncomfortable and inconvenient but then compounded by the wait of over 2months for even a response let alone compensation from the utterly inadequate “customer services”.
