It seems that its great turnaround plan was not so great, and VLM Airlines of Belgium have gone into bankruptcy.
As a result, all flights have been cancelled.
In addition CityJet’s service between London City and Antwerp has been cancelled – as this was operated by VLM. CityJet are advising passenger to take services to Rotterdam where ground transportation will be provisioned.
As well of their core base operating out of Antwerp Airport, VLM operated services for CityJet and FlyBe – along with charter and lease operations.
Up until its cessation of service, VLM operated a fleet of 11 Fokker 50 aircraft. The airline was going to take on 2 Sukhoi Superjets – but this order appears to be cancelled for some time.
VLM entered bankruptcy protection in May – which was granted. However, it seems the airline could not bring itself out of the position it was in… and thus is going out of business.
VLM initially started operations in 1993, and has been through various owners since then.
It seems that the current set of owners could no longer keep the airline going.
