For those who know me, I have a small thing for model planes.
When I say small.. I mean…
This isn’t half of it. A lot of it is in boxes. And I need to slice up the 1:400 fleet except in certain cases.
Well, popular children’s confectioner Kinder have something for the #avgeeks. And that’s Kinder Surprise Eggs, containing Airbus A330-300s.
Keep an eye on these. Say in another post… where I give then away.
A Kinder Surprise Egg is a milk chocolate egg, and inside a capsule with a toy inside. Wikipedia can explain it better than I can.
The addition of the Kinder Surprise with model Airbus A330-300 (not -200s…) feeds a great need for #avgeeks. Chocolate and Model Planes is never a bad combination.
So what do you get in these eggs? In the current box set, you give five models.
Lufthansa Airbus A330-300
Singapore Airline Airbus A330-300
Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300 Kinder Surprise
Swiss International Airlines Airbus A330-300
Kinder Airlines Airbus A330-300 (droll. very droll).
They’re lovely little models (and I mean, they’re little) which fits into the Kinder Surprise capsule, and a great memory for those who travel.
Getting hold of these models can be a challenge. As it’s marketed as a “travel product”, you’ll find them normally at airport.
So far, I’ve spotted these in Frankfurt-am-Main, Düsseldorf, Hamburg…. and most recently – Dublin airport. They’re not overly common (I’ve never seen them at a British Airport), so if you do see them and want them… get them.
As for pricing, they’ve varied between €9 and €10 a pack – which a lot higher than the normal than the usual £2 for three eggs (admittedly, they haven’t got Airbus A330-300s inside them, rather ).
Also for those of you who want to bring these into the USA…. Ummm. I wouldn’t. The US Food and Drugs Administration doesn’t like them stating:
Import Alert 34-02 was created as the Agency was made aware of a product called “Kinder Surprise Eggs”, and similar articles containing imbedded, non-nutritive objects, being offered for sale in the United States. The imbedded non-nutritive objects in these confectionary products may pose a public health risk as the consumer may unknowingly choke on the object.
There are also stories of Kinder Surprise eggs being imported from Canada (where they’re legal) and people being held at customs or possible fines.
So if you do bring Kinder Eggs back from Europe, Canada or anywhere else in the world where they are legal (HINT: Pretty much everywhere else in the World) at the … the technical term is “You’re on your own”. The Independent has a great article on why these are such a threat to the USA.
Now, I’ve talked about these things. I need to give a box away!
