Taking the Gatwick Express? Good luck with that…

11/07/2016 by Kevincm

Last week Southern Rail gave up running any pretense of running a normal timetable, and cancelled 341 services a day on its network from today (11th July 2016).

Alas, Southern Rail operates the Gatwick Express route – and unsurprisingly this has been hit by changes.

Gatwick Express state:

Gatwick Express services will operate to a revised timetable from 11th July. The frequency between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport will not be every 15 minutes, with larger gaps between trains at certain times of day from Mondays to Fridays. Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Brighton are also subject to alteration from Mondays to Fridays.

Services on Saturdays and Sundays will operate to the normal timetable.

The revised timetable is here – and makes for… unpleasant reading. The clock-face timetable departing every 15 minutes is changing to some rather unpredictable times, with the peak timetable taking the brunt of the changes, and evening services reduced to two an hour:

Meanwhile, the combined Southern/Thameslink/Gatwick Express revised timetable has also been published at http://www.southernrailway.com/download/41332.2/00-03-revised-timetable/

Ticket validities remain as-is, with all ticket restrictions still in place  (this includes off-peak and super off-peak restrictions). Passengers with advanced tickets are allowed to catch Southern trains up to an hour earlier than their booked one to ensure they meet their booked connection.

Suffice to say, next week will be tough for Gatwick Express users, and all users of Southern Railway with the cancellations and route reductions in force.

Allow a lot of extra time for your journey – especially if you need to get to Gatwick Airport.
