Day two of the Farnborough Air Show has been and gone. Let’s see who’s been opening their cheque books today…
Let’s start with Airbus, with the headline order of 100 A321neo aircraft from Air Asia.

This brings Air Asia’s booked purchases up to 575 Airbus A320 family aircraft. That’s a lot of Airbus narrow body aircraft. Be warned, they’re going to cram 240 seats aboard these planes.
Moving on, Go Air of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for 72 A320neo aircraft.

Germania is to add an extra Airbus A320neo aircraft to its fleet.

And finally, WOW Air is to get another four A321ceo aircraft to add to its increasing fleet. These are the first A320 family aircraft that WOW Air have brought directly from Airbus.

Over to the Boeing side of the field, the first order of the day was the finalising of an order for TUI – for 10 737 MAX 8s and One 787-9 Dreamliner.

Air Lease Corporation adds to its growing lease fleet, with a confirmed order for six Boeing 737 MAX 8

Kunming Airlines of China become the Chinese launch customer of the Boeing 737 MAX 7, with an Memorandum of Understanding for 10 aircraft.

There are also orders for 30 Boeing 737 MAX from Unidentified Chinese Customer, and an agreement with Volga-Dnepr over the sale of 20 747-8 Freighters – with 4 of the type already delivered.
Bombardier confirmed the longer stretch version of the CSeries aircraft – the CS300 will be launched by airBaltic. The airline will transition its existing fleet of Boeing 737s to Bombardier CSeries.

Meanwhile, Porter Airlines of Canada signs for 3 more Q400 Turboprop aircraft.

In other news:
- Qatar Airways continues to buy bits of airlines – this time, buying around 10% of LATAM Airlines.
- Boeing and Qatar Airways are to launch a performance improvement programme for the Boeing 777-300ER. What the actual improvements are – details are scant to say the least. Expect some fuel savings at least.
- Airbus is to cut production of its flagship Airbus A380 aircraft to 12 aircraft a year from 2018. The end… or a change? Could it be time for the A380neo to come forth? We just don’t know. But demand for the double-decker superjumbo is soft – to say the least.
That’s your lot for today – no doubt there will be more orders, more news and maybe things of interest tomorrow.

Will a number of A380’s end up as waterparks, you know like the retired Evergreen 747 in Oregon? They will fly away once to the waterpark location and then spend their days with kids sliding thru their pristine frames!
