Cathay Pacific introduces increased checked luggage allowances

17/08/2016 by Kevincm

We all prefer to tote our carry on bags along when we fly. However, there are times when you need to check your bag… that does probably contain a kitchen sink.

Thankfully, Cathay Pacific is increasing its checked luggage allowances.

In general, you will get an extra 10kg in luggage allowance when flying on Cathay Pacific – which is very useful considering some of the routes the network plys

Depending on your class of travel will depend on what you get.

Old Allowance New Allowance Hand Luggage
Economy Class 20Kg/44lb 30kg/66lb 7kg/15lb
Premium Economy 25kg/55lb 35kg/77lb 7kg/15lb
Business Class 30kg/66lb 40kg/88lb 10kg/22lb
First Class 40kg/88lb 50kg/110lb 15kg/33lb

Whilst hand luggage continues be a little mean in economy class, the extra stuff you can place in the hold more than makes up for this.

This is valid from 15th September 2016 – the full changes are on Cathay Pacific’s site.

For passengers who need to take one more souvenir, one more dress or one more suit or two more pairs of shoes…. the extra luggage allowance will be welcome.

And with the latest Cathay Pacific results… maybe that’s not a bad thing.

For those who insist in hauling everything in their carry on – you’ll need to be more creative to stick inside the luggage limits.

Thanks for the heads up! Another 10 kg means you can pack an extra dress, plus another suit and 5 pairs of shoes 😉

Or, if you travel with a partner in crime, you can share the space in one bag and then take turns pulling/pushing it. Very useful if you have a child with you as well, or some kind of special baggage like skies.

    Thanks Cathay, and thanks Kevin!
