… a cool $100 million Dollars!
Delta Boeing 767-300 from the Heathrow Control Tower – Image, Economy Class and Beyond.
Delta have released its numbers for August and sadly, there was going to be a hit with 2,300 cancellations over three days.
Delta states:
In addition, the outage Delta suffered in August resulted in 2,300 cancelled flights over a three day period. The outage and subsequent operational recovery efforts negatively impacted August revenue by approximately $100 million or 2 points of PRASM.
That’s going to smart.
Delta is also seeing weakness in its domestic market and transatlantic traffic, which isn’t helping its numbers in the least.
Although it would impress Doctor Evil. Apparently, you don’t need hair-brained plans to make $100 million dollars… just a power outage tied to your primary data centre….
Doctor Evil… of course. Gif via Gifly
And what do we learn if you run a data-centre? Make sure you have seperate power sources coming into your building, appropriate backup supplies… and UPS’s that don’t blow up.
The last one maybe a bit iffy.
Trust me.

Looks like delta is having an IT problem again. The website and mobile apps are both not working currently.
